Meet Dr. Kattner
Orthodontics continues to be a source of great joy for me. The opportunity to be a part of someone's journey toward a beautiful healthy smile cannot be overstated. To see a person's true self emerge following a time of shame or embarrassment over the condition of their teeth is beyond satisfying. The friendships created over the years are a bonus, as is the joy of seeing familiar smiles bring in the next generation of patients through our doors.
A lifelong resident of Lake County, Illinois, I was born in Waukegan, grew up in Gurnee, and now live in Wadsworth. My parents instilled in me the importance of education and family, two things that are still of great importance to me today.
I attended Gurnee District 56 schools and graduated from Warren Township High School in 1981. I then attended the University of Illinois - Urbana and upon graduation immediately enrolled at the University of Illinois - College of Dentistry where I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree as Valedictorian in 1989.
I continued my postdoctoral studies, earning my Master's Degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, as well as a degree (MA) from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Theology.
To ensure I am always up to date with all the latest advancements in the orthodontic and dental industries, I average more than 90 hours of continuing education annually and maintain an active membership in:
- American Association of Orthodontists
- Midwestern Society of Orthodontists
- Illinois Society of Orthodontists
- American Dental Association
- Illinois State Dental Society
- Chicago Dental Society
- American College of Dentists, Fellow
- International College of Dentists, Fellow
My education has formed my foundation for excellence in orthodontics. But education combined with experience is what matters even more. Clinical knowledge, apart from good problem-solving skills and the ability to motivate patients, will never provide the outcome the patient desires and deserves.
My wife LiLynn and I have been married for 40 years. We have four adult children, all of whom live in the area, as well as several grandchildren who continue to bring us immense joy. We are also very active members of Gurnee Community Church, where I am also Pastor of Adult Education.
